VILLA ZAITA INTER MODAL CENTER

PEREZ AND PEREZ PARTICIPATED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CONCEPTUAL DESIGN ALTERNATIVE FOR THE VILLA ZAITA INTERMODAL CENTER. THE PROJECT WAS THE FIRST MAJOR EXPANSION TO THE “LINE 1” METRO CORRIDOR IN PANAMA CITY, PANAMA. THIS INTERMODAL CENTER FEATURED A TERMINAL METRO RAIL STATION, A 16-BUS-BERTH PLAZA, AND A PARKING STRUCTURE WITH 900 CAR SPACE CAPACITY. THE DESIGN USED A “SPINAL CORD” APPROACH IN WHICH A SINGLE CIRCULATION CORRIDOR WAS THE UNIFYING ELEMENT THAT TIED THE WHOLE PROGRAM TOGETHER. THIS TRANSIT CONCOURSE ORGANIZED ALL THE SPACES IN A WAY THAT ALL TRANSFER PASSENGERS COULD INTUITIVELY FIND THEIR CONNECTIONS WITHOUT MAJOR EFFORT. THE FACADES OF THE BUILDINGS WHERE UTILIZED AS AN ELEMENT OF DESIGN CONTINUITY, GIVING THE DIFFERENT PROJECT ELEMENTS A SINGLE DESIGN AESTHETIC.
