STT CEKA NEW VISION

CYRIL E. KING INTERNATIONAL (STT)
ST. THOMAS, VIRGIN ISLAND

THE VIRGIN ISLANDS PORT AUTHORITY (VIPA) ASKED KIMLEY-HORN TO DEVELOP A NEW VISION FOR THE CYRIL E. KING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (STT) IN ST. THOMAS, US VIRGIN ISLANDS. THIS ‘NEW VISION’ IN LARGE PART, IS A RESPONSE TO THE RECENT NATURAL DISASTERS, WHICH RESULTED IN THE NEED OF SIGNIFICANT INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS TO RETURN FACILITIES TO A FULLY FUNCTIONAL STATE. ADDITIONALLY, WITH THIS OPPORTUNITY, VIPA WISHES TO ESTABLISH STT AS THE PREMIER PASSENGER HUB FOR THE CARIBBEAN AND CAPITALIZE ON THE INHERENT BENEFITS AS THE TOURIST DESIGNATION OF CHOICE IN THE CARIBBEAN, BOTH REGIONALLY AND GLOBALLY.

ADDITIONALLY, IT AIMS TO INCORPORATE CURRENTLY ON-GOING EFFOTS TO REBUILD EXISTING FACILITIES, UTILIZE FORECAST AND OTHER DATA GATHERED AS PART OF THE ON-GOING MASTER PLAN PROCESS, POSITION VIPA FOR FEDERAL EMERGENCY FUNDS RESULTING FROM RECENT HURRICANES, ALLOCATE POTENTIAL FAA FUNDS, AND DEVELOP A PROGRAM THAT WILL SERVE AS A ROAD MAP FOR THE FUTURE.
